16th-century hotel at the most photographed canal scene in Bruges

Location & Heritage

Hotel Duc De Bourgogne is situated in a historic building dating from the 1600s at Huidenvettersplein, next to the Rozenhoedkaai canal. The hotel offers views of swans and canal boats from its restaurant and breakfast room, overlooking the most photographed canal scene in Bruges. Guests have a 5-minute walk to the Grand Place, Burg Square, and the Groeninge Museum.

Dining

The on-site restaurant serves regional cuisine prepared with fresh local ingredients for lunch and dinner. Breakfast is served daily with freshly baked breads, fresh fruit, juices, and eggs in a dining room overlooking the canal. The restaurant has earned recognition for its romantic dining atmosphere and offers special diet menus and kids' meals.

Rooms

Rooms include standard twin rooms, deluxe twin rooms, and junior suites with canal views, all with private bathrooms and cable TV. Junior suites provide views of the canal on both sides of the room and from the bathroom. Some rooms have been recently refurbished with modern bathrooms.

Parking & Accessibility

The hotel offers private check-in/check-out and luggage storage for guest convenience. Parking is available at a parking garage 200 meters from the hotel, which includes accessible parking and an electric vehicle charging station. The hotel has CCTV in common areas, smoke alarms, and fire extinguishers for guest safety.

Pet & Group Policies

Pets are allowed in all areas of the hotel and the restaurant. The hotel's experienced team caters to small, medium, and large groups. Express check-in/check-out and invoice provided are available for business travelers.

Highlights

16th-century building: Historic hotel constructed in the 1600s

Canal-side dining: Breakfast and dinner with swan and canal-boat views

Central location: 5-minute walk to Grand Place, Burg Square, and Groeninge Museum

Romantic restaurant: On-site dining serving regional cuisine in a recognized romantic setting

Pet-friendly: Dogs permitted throughout hotel and restaurant

Electric vehicle charging: Available at the nearby parking garage

“In my opinion, its setting on the canal offers views rivaled by few others in Bruges. The on-site restaurant emphasizes a romantic mood with regional cuisine, while the building itself whispers stories from the 17th century. I think it's a good pick for couples wanting some historical charm.”

mixed feelings about this stay

missed wake-up call street noise
The staff seemed stretched thin. i asked for a simple wake-up call but it never came. also, the noise from the street was quite noticeable. Even with the windows closed, i could hear the late-night revelers. i wasn't thrilled about this and it made it hard to sleep well, especially given the price i paid. i think some better soundproofing is necessary.

adequate stay

central location canal views missing elevator limited seating
the room had excellent views of the canal from multiple windows. the location was central, providing easy access to various attractions (which was really convenient).
the absence of an elevator posed a challenge with luggage, especially on higher floors. limited seating near the bar also made it difficult to relax with a drink (something i noticed).
